Traditions

The advantage of being a mixed couple is that we take the best of the traditions on both sides and make our own. On this January 8th, we celebrated the Epiphanie (a Christian celebration of the date of the visit of the Magi to the infant Jesus. On this day the three Wise Men arrived from the East, guided by the Star of Bethlehem, bearing gifts for the divine infant. In France, it is on this that the Wise Men figurines in the nativity scene are placed around baby Jesus and we also eat the ‘galette des rois”) and the Japanese New Year, Shogatsu. So, on this day, we had sushis, sashimis, mochis, shrimps and gambas, and ‘galette des rois’ for diner! But wait…! the Guiness and the soda bread were missing on the table!!
