Folding napkins / Plier des serviettes

2012 October 19

So today we won… the big Friday’s laundry bag from her school!! During the week, the children use napkins and linens in their exercises and each family takes turn to wash them on the week-end. It is also the opportunity to work at home on a practical life exercise: loading the washing machine, setting the dials, loading the dryer and folding the clothes when dry. Juliette was very eager to perform this task this afternoon and proudly, explained to me what is the use for each category of clothes.

Folding napkins is an easy exercise to do at home and not only it gives a sense of independence to the child but also, develops muscular control of the fingers, trains in exactness and prepares for geometry by subconscious absorption of the folding lines.

Juliette has been going to the Montessori school for a month now. Everyday I ask her what she did and everyday she answers “cylinders and snacks”!! Some days, she may add one of these: “the tree puzzle, buttoning, walking on the line, pouring rice, polishing a mirror and folding napkins”.

Juliette va a l’ecole Montessori depuis 1 mois maintenant.
